DIAGNOSIS & TREATMENT

Diagnosis: Brain Tumor - Atypical Teratoid Rhabdoid Tumor (AT/RT)

Treatment:  
     Surgery - Total Gross Resection
     Chemotherapy - Modified IRS-III (Dana Farber Protocol)
     Radiation - Focal Proton Radiation to tumor bed (54 Gy)

Length of Treatment - June 2011 - August 2012 

52 week Protocol  
     - every 3 weeks inpatient chemo (hospital stay ranged from 2-6 days for chemo)
     - every other round consisted of intrathecal (IT) chemo (directly into spinal fluid)
     - chemo continued simultaneously through 6 weeks of radiation

Treatment Related Complications:
     Fever and Neutropenia (11 of 17 Rounds) - fever admits ranged from 2 - 12 days in hosp
     Anemia and Thrombocytopenia - too many blood and platelet transfusions to count
     Fungal Pneumonia - was subsiquentaly on antifungals for one year
     Septic Shock - resulted in febrile seizure and 10 day PICU stay
     Decreased cardiac function:
          - altered final rounds of chemo to eliminate last 2 rounds of Doxarubricin
          - recovered most of function and function remain in low normal range w/o medication
     Alopecia - large area of permanent hair loss in radiation field
     Foot drop - recovered Left, but Right still severe and requires AFO
